Tips to Change Spacing between the Desktop Icons in Windows 8

Posted by Britt Duncan - January 26, 2015

In Windows 8, there is no direct path to change the spacing between the desktop icons. If you want to get this job done, you will need to make modifications to the registry settings. The following tutorial will show how to do that.

1. Log into the operating system as an Administrator.

2. Click on the desktop tile on the start screen, then hit Win and R keys to open Run command box.

3. Type into “regedit” and click OK button.

4. On Registry Editor window, find the location as below:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

5. Click WindowsMetrics container from the left pane.
Registry Editor

6. Double-click the IconSpacing string on the right pane.

7. In the Value data field, fill the current value that should between -480 and -2750 only.
