Open USB Drive Quickly with Keyboard Shortcut in Windows 7/8

If you are one of those who use a USB drive to transfer files daily, it will surely be more convenient to create shortcut for it. Thus, next you need to access the drive, just plug the USB and click on the shortcut to save time and hassle. Below are detailed instructions


Step 1: Back up the data in your USB drive, just in case of data loss, then connect it to the computer.

Step 2: Press Win + R keys at the same time to bring up run box and then type Diskmgmt.msc in the search field. Hit Enter and Disk Management will open up accordingly.


Step 3: Once Disk Management window opens up, select and then right click on your drive. Next select Change Drive Letter and Paths from the menu.


Step 4: You will notice that a new window pops up. Click Change button and assign a unique drive letter. Click OK to and then then Yes once seeing the warning message.




Step 5: Access Windows Explorer. Right click on the drive and select Create shortcut option from right-click drop-down menu.


Step 6: Then, go back to the Desktop, where a new shortcut is just created. Right click on it and then select Properties.


Step 7: Under Shortcuts tab, in the Shortcut key box, enter a keyboard shortcut that you prefer, like CTRL + U, and then Apply button.


That’s all it takes. Try to access the USB drive with the assigned keyboard shortcut!
