How to Turn On/ Off Automatic Updates on Windows

Many people may encounter Flash update pop-up window once they start up the PC. That is caused by Windows Update, a feature that comes with Windows products, which provides essential benefits such as improving security and reliability of the system. To some people, they may want to keep the current version of system applications. Therefore, it becomes a question to turn off the auto setting of Windows Update. But to other people, Windows Update can remind them of upgrading important updates. Hence, it is necessary to turn on the Windows Update feature. This post will outline step-by-step guides to turn on or off auto updates on Windows.



How to Turn On/ Off Auto Updates on Windows 7

Step one- Click Start menu, and then type “update” in the search bar. Open Windows Update in the displayed list


Step two- Click Change Settings in the left pane

Step three- Under Important updates tab, choose the option you desire

If you want to turn off the auto update function, please choose Never check for updates (not recommended)


Step four- Under Recommended updates, tick Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates

Step five- Click OK to save the changes


How to Turn On/ Off Auto Updates on Windows 8.1

Step one- Click Winkey and C to activate the Charm bar, select Settings

Step three- Select Update and recovery

Step four- Under Windows Update, click Choose how updates get installed


Step five- Under Important updates, choose the option that you want. Then tick “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates” and “Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows”


Step six- Click Apply to save the changes


If you are not much familiar with computers, it is still advisable to turn on the Windows Update to protect the system in time.
