How to Disable Access to the Control Panel in Windows 7 and Windows 8

If you share a computer with your families or friends, you may not want them to make changes to the important settings especially messing around in the Control Panel. Luckily, you are able to disable Control Panel through Group Policy Settings in Windows. Let’s show out the trick now!

Step one- Hit Winkey and R key to execute Run. Type gpedit.msc in the dialogue box and run it.

Step two- Expand User Configuration, then Administrative Templates, and click Control Panel

Step three- Double click on Prohibit access to the Control Panel in the right pane.

Step four- Tick Enabled and OK in the pop-up window. And close the Local Group Policy Editor.

Step five- Click Start menu, you won’t see Control Panel listed there.

Step six- If you try to enter Control Panel in search box, the system will pop up a warning message.

Step one- Press Winkey and C key to activate the Charm menu. And click Search.

Step two- Type gpedit.msc in the search bar

Step three- Select and double click gpedit from the left pane

Step four- Open User Configuration, then Administrative Templates, and choose Control Panel

Step five- Double click on Prohibit access to the Control Panel in the right pane.

Step six- Check Enabled option and click OK in the pop-up window. And close the Local Group Policy Editor.

Step seven- Activate the Charm menu again to check the work. Select Settings, then Control Panel. You’ll receive a warning pop-up.

The above steps will help you to disable the access into the Control Panel. When you want to enable it, you should check Not Configured (recommended) or Disabled in the settings window.
