How to Change the Computer Name through Control Panel in Windows

Note: This option can be done in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Meanwhile, it needs you to log in with an administrator account.
Step one- Open Control Panel.
In Windows 7
Click Start menu, and then select Control Panel.

Press Windows key and I key, then click Control Panel button.

Step two- Click System button under Large icons view.

       Alternatively, the above two steps can be done by right-clicking on Computer from the desktop, and then you select Properties.

Step three- Click Change settings under “Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings” section.

Step four- Click Change in the pop-up System Properties window.

Step five- Type your desired name in Computer name dialog. And be sure some characters should not be included. Then click OK.

Step six- Click OK again in the pop-up warning message window.

Step seven- Click Close in the System Properties window.

It’s a simple and straightforward process changing the computer name. So there is no need for you to keep its default computer name forever.
