Windows has a set of sounds that are applied to programs and events, such as “Close Program”, “Default Beep”, “Maximize”, “Minimize”, etc. The collection of all these sounds is called a sound scheme and is associated with a Windows theme. That is, if you use the original Windows 7 and Windows 8 theme, you’ll get a default Windows sound scheme. But if you install another theme for the Windows, the sound scheme is changed accordingly as well. If you are not happy with the current sound scheme, you can customize it to be your favorite. To customize the sound scheme, you need to open the Sound window. This window can be opened in several ways.

Method One
Step 1- Right click on the desktop, and then select Personalize.

Step 2- Click Sounds link at the bottom of the Personalization window.

Method Two
Step 1- Open Control Panel.
In Windows 7
Click Start button, then Control Panel.

Hit Windows key and I key together, then select Control Panel.

Step 2- Select Appearance and Personalization button.

Step 3- Choose Change sound effects under Personalization.

Method Three
In Windows 7
Step 1- Click Start button, then type “change sounds” (without quotes) in the search box.

Step 2- Click Change system sounds option.

In Windows 8
Step 1- Hit Windows and W keys together, type “change sounds” (without quotes) in the dialog box.

Method Four
Step 1- Find the sound icon in the system tray. Right click on it.

And now you are in the Sound customization window, do the following to choose your own sound scheme.

Step one- Click on the drop-down list of Sound Scheme, select the one you would like to play.

Step two- Click Apply, then Ok.

And now you will have another sound scheme for your Windows. And you may find that Windows 7 contains many sound schemes while Windows 8 provides only two choices: No Sounds and Windows Default. Then you may want to customize a scheme.

How to Create a New Sound Scheme in Windows

Step one- Choose No Sounds from the drop-down Sound Scheme list.

Step two- Click on a program event, saying Asterisk, from the Program Events list.

Step three- Click browse.

Step four- Open your favorite sound file. But you need to be sure that the file is a .wav format used for Windows sound scheme.

Step five- Click Save As.

Step six- Name the customized sound scheme. And click OK.

Step seven- Then you can click Apply and OK to save your changes and close the Sound window.

If you don’t want this sound scheme any more, you can click Delete behind Save As to remove your saved one. But anyway, you can make your own file as the sound scheme and won’t get crazy at those boring ones.
