How to Automatically Log into the Windows 8 & 8.1 Desktop on Boot-up

Many people using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 are not used to the new Start or Metro screen. Some seldom click those buttons on the Start screen. Hence, you would like to skip the Start/ Metro screen and log into the Windows desktop directly. Here we’ll show out a few ways to change settings in the system to allow auto log-in to the desktop in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

Step one- Press Windows key and C to open Charms bar, and select Search.

Step two- Type “schedule” in the search box. And click Settings in the right pane.

Step three- Click on Schedule tasks in the search results.

Step four- click on Create Task button in the Actions panel, on the right.

Step five- Under General tab, give a name like Show Desktop to the new Task. Check “Run only when user is logged on” option. Select Windows 8 in the “Configure for”.

Step six-
In Triggers tab, press New.

Step seven- In the “Begin the task” drop down list, select “At log on”.

Step eight- Go to Settings tab, select Any user and make sure the trigger is Enabled. Then click OK.

Step nine-
Go to the Actions tab and press New.

Step ten-
Type in “C:\Windows\Explorer.exe” where it says “Program/script.”

Finally you click OK to save changes.

Step one- Press Windows key and R to open Run, and type “Regedt32.exe” in the dialog box. And click OK.

Step two- Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon

Step three- Look for the registry entry named Shell, right-click on it, and select Modify.

Step four- Change Value data “explorer.exe” to “explorer.exe /select,explorer.exe” (without the quotes). Hit OK.

Step five- Close Registry Editor.

Step one- Hit Windows key and I key to open Settings bar, then click Control Panel.

Step two- Click Appearance and Personalization.

Step three- Click Taskbar and Navigation.

Alternatively,
the fastest way to get to Taskbar and Navigation properties window is to right click on any blank area of the Taskbar, select Properties.

Step four- Click Navigation tab, and check “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” and “Show Start on the display I’m using when I press the Windows logo key” boxes. And click OK.

And now, the next time you log into your Windows, it will take you straight to the desktop. But don’t feel confused when File Explorer turns out. This is how it supposed to work.
