Fix Windows Search Service Start Failure in Window 8/8.1

Search function is an important feature for users to find particular files or settings in Windows 8/8.1 as so many settings have been hidden deep inside the machine comparing to Windows 7. However, some users may receive error messages when try to search for something. How can you fix this quickly? Please continue reading.


1. Click Win + R to pop up Run box and enter regedit. Click Yes once seeing the UAC prompt, click Yes to proceed.


2. After the Registry Editor shows up, locate the item: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows Search. Move to right pane and find Setup Completed Successfully. Double click on the key to modify its value. Set the value base to Hexadecimal and value data as 0.



3. Locate another item:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows Search -> FileChangeClientConfigs, rename it to FileChangeClientConfigsBAK.


4. At last, restart your computer and try to make a search again to see whether it works or not.
