Windows 10 Technical Preview is released for some time. To some Windows users, the good point is the Start menu comes back again. But some people who use Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926 are facing an odd issue where the Start menu does not work or open. Some would find he can’t type anything in the search bar or speak to Cortana. Well then, since you would not reset or reinstall Windows 10, here’s how to sort it out.

Option One- Fix Start Menu Not Opening in Windows 10 through System and Security

Step 1. Right click on the Start menu button, open Control Panel
right-click-start-menu-button
Step 2. Select System and Security

Step 3. Click Add features to Windows Technical pre…

Step 4. Click I already have a product keyin the pop-up window

Step 5. Type in the key you owned when you bought the system version update, and click Next
enter-product-key
Then wait for the computer to update. It will reboot the system and install update automatically. When it finishes, try hitting Start menu button to check.

Option Two- Fix Start Menu Not Opening in Windows 10 through Powershell

Step 1. Press Windows and R key together to open Run
win-r
Step 2. Enter PowerShell in the dialog box
run-powershell
OR Right click on the PowerShell icon on the taskbar and select Run as Administrator
Step 3. Paste the following command in the Administrator: Windows PowerShell window and press Enter key:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
command-in-powershell
You can now sit back and wait for the PowerShell to complete the command. Some error may pop up in red color, but you should ignore it. When it finishes, you can hopefully get the Start menu back.

Note: The second trick is some kind dangerous. It’s highly advised to back up important data before taking the procedure. If you have any other method to resolve the Start menu, please feel free to leave a comment and share your wisdom.
